In my first instalment of a series of articles exploring how I’m embracing my wellness era, I outlined what wellness is, why it’s important along with My Six Month Wellness Plan:

As a reminder, here are the seven steps I'm committed to taking:

  1. Adopting a Growth Mindset - Not judging my wellness by the scales alone
  2. Romanticising My Wellness Journey -  Adding aesthetic and creative touches to make the process enjoyable
  3. Choosing Wellness Era Scents - Selecting signature perfumes to symbolise and enhance my wellness journey
  4. Prioritising Protein and High Volume, Low-Calorie Foods -  Ensuring a balanced diet with nutrient-dense foods using YAZIO
  5. Focusing on Hydration and Sleep - Tracking water intake and aiming for 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night
  6. Implementing Glucose Hacks - Incorporating strategies to maintain stable blood sugar levels
  7. Committing to Consistency - Maintaining wellness habits regardless of daily motivation, supported by positive self-talk.

And this is my SMART Goal Statement:

Over the next 6 months, I aim to be significantly closer to losing 20kg (44 lbs) by drinking 2 litres of water daily and exercising for 45 minutes every day. I will track my weight loss progress weekly, log my daily water intake, and record my exercise routines to ensure consistent and measurable progress.

My Seven Step Choices

My wellness-era scent? I’ve chosen YSL Libre—a fragrance that embodies freedom and self-assurance. Each spritz feels like a reminder to prioritise self-care in all its forms, whether it’s getting my nails done, refreshing my hairstyle, or filling my space with fresh flowers.

These small yet powerful acts of care help me feel grounded and renewed. Alongside these rituals, staying on top of my hydration has become a daily commitment, each tap on my YAZIO water tracker a promise to myself to nurture both mind and body. And these practices have created a complete sense of lightness and well-being that I’m carrying everyday.

The First Month: Losing 7lbs in one month & Having a Growth Mindset

Could anyone prevent me from the elliptical at 7AM or chugging my first litre before 8 in the morning? Not on my Apple watch.

But as soon as I went over my calories or didn’t fit as much exercise in as I’d planned I noticed a pattern. My resilience levels were zilch.

Now, YAZIO App has this nifty feature where it shows your month’s progress at a glance and although the OCD in me is heartbroken I can’t show you a full patch of green ticks across July and what’s completed of August, after four weeks I’ve lost 3.2kg (that’s 7lbs or half a stone)

For me, (an imperial-raised millennial) half a stone is monumental success.

But what’s confusing is that I haven’t necessarily stuck to my SMART goals in their entirety. And, whilst it’s true that tracking my food choices in YAZIO has completely overhauled my approach meal-planning - 2 litres of water and exercising daily? Only committed to some of the time.

But adopting and sticking with a growth mindset? 100% every day.

What is a Growth Mindset?

A growth mindset, a concept popularised by psychologist Carol Dweck, refers to the belief that one's abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, hard work, and perseverance.

Unlike a fixed mindset, where people believe their talents and intelligence are as set in stone as last season’s trends, those with a growth mindset view challenges as fabulous opportunities for growth and reinvention. It’s like trading in those old, worn-out beliefs for a brand-new pair of shoes—suddenly, every step feels full of possibility.

This perspective fosters a love for learning and resilience, essential qualities for personal development and achievement. And, according to Stanford University research, a growth mindset can lead to higher motivation and achievement in various aspects of life, including education and health.

Why is a Growth Mindset so Powerful?

Picture yourself at the base of the Matterhorn in the Alps. To some, its jagged peaks and sheer faces seem impossible to conquer. But with a growth mindset, the Matterhorn becomes more than a mountain; it’s a series of challenges that sharpen your skills and build your strength.

Each step upward isn’t just progress—it’s growth. Instead of seeing the mountain as an obstacle, you view it as an opportunity, transforming the climb into a journey of perseverance and resilience that carries you toward the summit.

The power of a growth mindset lies in its ability to transform how we perceive and respond to challenges. Rather than viewing obstacles as insurmountable, those with a growth mindset see them as opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge.

This new perspective is fostering a deeper sense of perseverance, resilience, and self-compassion—key elements that are proving vital in the pursuit of my long-term goals.

And, as Harvard Business Review highlights, adopting a growth mindset can lead to increased creativity, improved problem-solving abilities, and enhanced motivation, which are all critical when pursuing challenging objectives like weight loss.

What Effect Can Having a Growth Mindset Have When Trying to Lose Weight?

When it comes to weight loss, adopting a growth mindset changes everything. Instead of getting trapped by strict diets and the pursuit of instant results, this mindset encourages you to see the process as a journey of learning and growth.

Challenges aren’t setbacks; they’re opportunities to fine-tune your approach. With a growth mindset, you cultivate resilience, adapt to change, and build a positive, sustainable relationship with food and exercise. This perspective leads to real, lasting progress.

What Are the 5 Characteristics of a Growth Mindset?

  1. Embracing Challenges: Those with a growth mindset are not deterred by difficult tasks; instead, they see them as opportunities to learn and grow.
  2. Persistence in the Face of Setbacks: Rather than giving up after encountering obstacles, individuals with a growth mindset continue to push forward, learning from their mistakes.
  3. Effort as a Path to Mastery: They believe that effort is essential to developing new skills and achieving mastery.
  4. Learning from Criticism: Constructive criticism is viewed as valuable feedback that can help them improve.
  5. Finding Inspiration in Others' Success: Instead of feeling threatened by others' achievements, they find inspiration and learn from them.

These characteristics are not only beneficial for personal development but are also crucial for successful weight loss, where perseverance, learning from mistakes, and consistent effort play a significant role.

The YAZIO App, a Growth Mindset and My Sweetest-Tooth

For someone embracing their wellness journey and aiming to lose weight while satisfying a sweet tooth, the YAZIO nutrition app has been unexpectedly helpful. Instead of scouring Pinterest for healthy twists on indulgent recipes, I discovered YAZIO's recipe bank, which felt like striking gold. With options like low-fat and sugar-free cinnamon rolls and baked apple pie, I found delicious ways to satisfy my cravings without derailing my progress.

And, even when I miss a workout or indulge more than planned, YAZIO helps me focus on the big picture, reminding me that setbacks are just part of the journey. After just one month, I’m already developing healthier habits and seeing real weight loss. YAZIO has made that possible, making this journey feel a lot less restrictive and a lot more sustainable.
